Free software is the term used to define the software that represents the users’ freedom, so, once obtained, it can be freely used, copied, studied, modified and redistributed.

 

According to the definition above, the free software guarantees the following freedoms:

Run the program with any purpose (private, educational, public, commercial, military, etc.) Study and modify the program (it is necessary to access the source code ) Copy the program so that it can help anyone Improve the program and publish the improvements
It is important to know that for freedoms 1 and 3, the access to the source code is a must.
The freedom 2 makes reference to the freedom of modifying and redistributing the software under some kind of software license that benefits the community.
